Reminder: Soup Lunch fundraiser for the library Saturday, March 25, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Rippey public library. A free will donation will be accepted with all proceeds helping to fund the library and the summer reading program.

She would welcome your suggestions and ideas you may want to happen at the library that others would find interesting, too. The Lenten study, The God We Can Know continues on Mondays at 7 pm at the Rippey United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend these sessions when they can.
Rippey Lions Club: On March 16, the Rippey Lions Club and guests enjoyed the meal prepared by Phyllis Bardole with Maralynn Rinker helping serve. During the business the group discussed the planned mother-son banquet scheduled for April 1. It was decided later that because of low ticket sales and conflicts for some who had wanted to attend, the event would be cancelled for this year. Plans for the summer were discussed including work in the parks, a community picnic and “Music on Main Street.” Further plans will be made at upcoming meetings.
Harlan DenBeste introduced the guest speaker, John Palmer of Perry, who is a member of the Perry Historic Preservation Commission. This volunteer group is appointed through the Perry city council. Their purpose is to make history of Perry come alive through events, placing structures on the National Historic Register and historical programs. He showed the group a detailed book of pictures of Perry over the years. The commission has worked on various projects including a memorial to Chinese immigrants who lost their lives and are buried in a mass grave. Palmer shared his knowledge of many historic buildings in Perry and group shared their memories of Perry as well.
The next meeting will be on April 6 at the Rippey United Methodist Church at 7 pm. Rick and Mary Liebich are coordinators for the potluck meal and Chris Roberts is in charge of the program.

Recently, Gary and Mary Weaver traveled to Sioux City and attended the Perry Creek Elementary music program for grades 4 and 5. Lauryn Basye sang with the 4th grade group and the theme was “Music from the Islands”, including Hawaiian Lullaby played with puili sticks. The 5th grade group included Nathan Basye and their theme was “A Frosty, Frigid February Concert.” It was the first concert held in the new Perry Creek School. Also attending were their parents, Matt and Theresa Basye, along with Matt’s mother, Pat Basye.
Saturday evening March 4 ,David Weaver, and Gary and Mary attended the North Middle School basketball tournament for 5th graders. Nathan plays point guard with his team. It was the 4th game his grandparents had attended. The team has improved tremendously, but it was not enough to withstand the first round as they were beaten by Heelan Middle School Crusaders. They traveled to the Basye residence for an evening meal and then returned to Rippey that evening. Jean Borgeson concluded a three week visit in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Blake Hampton and their children Sierra, Sophia and Jayden. On March 12, the children were baptized in the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Tempe, AZ, with Pastor Troy Schmidt officiating. Alan and Sarah Borgeson of Rippey served as the children’s godparents.
Other family members attending the weekend festivities were the children’s older brother Blake Hampton, of Raleigh, NC; cousins Kane and Kale Borgeson of Rippey, and the special, secret surprise to the Hamptons, Linda’s aunt and uncle Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston. Friends Jen Meyer and son Eli of Scottsdale, AZ, also attended the services. The out-of-towners started for home on Monday.
Jean stayed to help with child care during spring break and also a few days later. The cost of an airline ticket home was outrageous during spring break, so a few extra days of hugs were worth the wait for the prices to become affordable, before returning home. __________
Dale and Nancy Hanaman traveled to Superior, WI, for a short visit with Sarah and Benji Pearson, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea. Nancy and Dale along with the grandchildren returned to Rippey area the next day where the children will spend their school vacation. At the end of the week, they will all return to Superior for Steven’s track meet.
